Right now at the Grays Harbor Public Market the plants and flowers are being set outside and Nancy is busy baking her extraordinary pies and cinnamon rolls.
We thank all of you who made our Arbor Day celebration such a memorable event. Wow. I’ve never seen our market so busy and full of life, and this is the sort of day that we want to make happen on a regular basis. I’m busy making plans for our next special event, which is coming up in only 11 days! Yes, I’m talking about Mother’s Day. Make sure you put us on your list for all of your food, flower, & gift shopping because we plan on making this the finest Mother’s Day ever! Deidra’s Deli is going to have extra help from all of the market vendors on Sunday May 10th. We will be decorating and baking our very own favorite desserts so that we can offer free dessert and sparkling apple cider to everyone who brings mom to Deidra’s for lunch on that special day! If you bring your own camera we will take your photo with your family, and there will be drawings for gifts and mom-appropriate prizes.
Looking for something to do this weekend? I’m going to share a well-kept secret with you. Joe and I have a favorite fair that we attend every year, and is so little known that I couldn’t even find an article to include for you here. The Matlock Old Timers Historical Fair is held every year on the first full weekend in May at the Mary M. Knight School. I love this fair!! The music is always great, the exhibits are really high quality, and the food is beyond description. If you find your way back to the cafeteria there are homemade pies which will break down all of your defences. There are rows of old farm and logging equipment displayed, and the kids can find wholesome fun.
Nancy is offering a special on ALL of her jam this week! Mention this article and we will deduct 50 cents off all jars, and $1.00 from the quarts. If you need something to spread the jam on, she has Cardomam bread fresh on Thursday, and several varieties of bread baking Friday morning. You can always call us and ask to have something tucked away until you arrive. I hate to see the dissappointed face when the last rolls walked out the door just as you come in.
We will be open on Sundays beginning May 10th, and are now open until 6pm on Friday & Saturday. Our goal is to be open 7 days a week, all I need is a few more vendors! We operate as a co-op and the farmers market itself is a non-profit COMMUNITY business. We’re here for you!
Hope you have many moments of happiness every day,
Barbara Bennett Parsons (360) 538-9747
