Read the book now and be ready for book conversations and special presentations in October.
The title for 2009 is “Three Cups of Tea: One Man’s Mission to Promote Peace… One School at a Time,” by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin. A true story of compassion, perseverance and dedication, this book tells of one man’s mission to promote peace, repay a debt and keep a promise. While accomplishing his goals of addressing poverty, educating girls, overcoming cultural divides and enabling the construction of now more than 70 schools across rural Pakistan and Afghanistan, Mortenson sets an example that is nothing short of inspirational.
Related books for youth are “Three Cups of Tea: One Man’s Mission to Promote Peace… One Child at a Time,” adapted by Sarah L. Thomson for upper elementary and middle school-age youth, and “Listen to the Wind, the story of Dr. Greg & Three Cups of Tea,” by Greg Mortenson, a picture book exquisitely illustrated by Susan L. Roth.
Timberland Reads Together is an annual districtwide program of the Timberland Regional Library system, encouraging people throughout Thurston, Mason, Lewis, Grays Harbor and Pacific counties to read and talk about the same book and to enjoy the enrichment of related presentations.
