007 and Goldfinger due at 7th Street Theatre March 19-20
The most popular of actor Sean Connery’s James Bond movies, Goldfinger will be shown at Grays Harbor’s historic 7th Street Theatre Friday and Saturday, March 20 and 21. The film will run at 7:30 pm both nights with doors opening at 7 pm at the recently renovated atmospheric theatre, located at 313 7th Street in downtown Hoquiam.
Originally released in 1964, Goldfinger was the third installment in the genre-defining spy thriller series. It featured Connery, who was now beginning to find a little fun with the super-suave “Agent 007.” This was enhanced with a wild new arsenal of gadgets and tricks, such as the heavily accessorized sports car, the Aston Martin DB5, outfitted with machine guns, smoke screen, oil slick and even an ejection seat.
Rounding out the merry mayhem were various “Bond beauties” plus a couple of outrageous villains, Auric Goldfinger, with a plot to attack the gold at Ft. Knox, and his manservant, Odd Job, he of the (literally) killer top hat. The film also featured the title song, Goldfinger, a top-10 hit for Shirley Bassey.
To add to the fun, theatre volunteers will sell raffle tickets for two copies of an original, 1964 Life Magazine which features Goldfinger and an image from the movie on the cover. One copy will be raffled on each night.
Doors open at 7:00 p.m. for the 7:30 p.m. showings. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students and children, and will be available at the door. For more information call 360-537-7400 or check the website, www.7thstreettheatre.com.
