Hoquiam resident and author, Ted Reynvaan, will discuss his book “The Boys of Company B: Memories of the Men of the B Company, 11th Infantry Battalion, USMCR, Aberdeen, Washington.” Mr. Reynvaan will talk about his search for the Harbor men who left Aberdeen in 1950 to serve in the Korean War. The event will be held at the Hoquiam Timberland Library on Saturday, April 17 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Information on purchasing the book will be available. Refreshments will be served.
Told to Reynvaan by 50 of the 150 young men who served in Baker Company, the stories in the book had rarely—sometimes never—been shared. Nearly 60 years after the war, local history buff, Ralph Larson, and Reynvaan teamed up to preserve an important part of Grays Harbor history. Reynvaan, who was a member of Company B, located and interviewed the men and edited the book. Larson supported the project and published the work. The oral histories that comprise the main part of the book were only lightly edited. They reflect the men’s experiences in their own words.
The book includes photographs, maps and the complete roster for “B Company, 11th Infantry Battalion, USMCR; Naval-Marine Corps Reserve Training Center; Port of Grays Harbor, Aberdeen, Washington; 8 August 1950.”
