Join Northwest actress and storyteller Debbie Dimitre as she portrays First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt at the Raymond Timberland Library on Saturday, August 7 at 2 p.m. The special event, free to the public, is being held in honor of Eleanor Roosevelt Day, observed locally in early August. It will interest adults and high school teens, both students of American history and those who appreciate its interpretation on the stage. Light refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Raymond Timberland Library.
Eleanor Roosevelt was first lady of the United States for twelve years, from March 1933 to April 1945. Active during and after her time in the White House, Roosevelt was a humanitarian, writer and delegate to the United Nations. Ms. Dimitre, in character and in costume as the courageous crusader for human rights, will share portions of Mrs. Roosevelt’s life, triumphs, and struggles.
For the past 20 years Dimitre has performed multiple times for numerous organizations, libraries, schools and other groups as well as Seattle’s Northwest Folklife and other festivals. Her dramatic presentations bring to life the courage and accomplishments of women in history. Besides Eleanor Roosevelt, Dimitre has portrayed the scientist and writer Rachel Carson, Molly Pitcher, Annie Oakley, Harriet Beecher Stowe and Anne Morrow Lindbergh.
The Raymond Timberland Library is located at 507 Duryea Street, Raymond. For more information, please contact the library at (360) 942-2408 or go to www.TRL.org.
